Cooper Union is known for its prestigious program with one of the lowest acceptance rates among any other art colleges in the nation.
We just wanted to introduce you to one of their admission requirements, that is, a ~wretched~ hometest.
Unlike some other schools that will announce their home test topics and themes out in the open,
Cooper Union doesn’t reveal their hometest unless you are an applicant, and not until the day after the application deadline.
Usually, that is December for Early Decision and January for Regular Decision.
Keep in mind that early decision and regular decision applicants get two different sets of hometests.
The Hometest contains its own instructions to be followed explicitly, including a portfolio submission.
The Hometest is sent to all School of Art applicants via email a week after the online application deadline closes.
The Hometest is sent via email to the email address submitted on your application.
If you think you did not receive your Hometest, please first check your spam folder first for an email from admissions@cooper.edu.
If you still cannot locate the Hometest email, contact us at admissions@cooper.edu.
Usually, a hometest consists of a list of themes, subjects, or questions to respond to.
1. A composition of three unrelated objects from observation demonstrating a dependent relationship. Include the initial three observational drawings.
2. An extreme close-up view of a part of your body.
3. A 360 view of a space that is occupied.
4. A sequence or series of images defining density (minimum of 5 images).
5. Aberrance.
6. Renovate an existing monument to a contemporary function.
Keep in mind that along with the hometest, you also need to submit your portfolio
within the same container or box of the assigned size.
When you are making response pieces to the hometest,
you might want to keep that in mind and not go way too out-of-control!
So, the admissions deadlines for next fall are coming up.
If you need help with your portfolio or feel stuck,
well, we all know that it actually is a natural part of the application process.
