Our 1-year and 3-year Certificate of Completion in Portfolio Preparation are full-time, SEVP-approved programs offered by New York Art Studio, an I-20-issuing art school in the United States. Eligible international students receive Form I-20 to pursue F-1 student visa status while completing full-time coursework focused on technical skill development, conceptual growth, and portfolio readiness for top art and design colleges in the United States and worldwide.
Certificate Requirements – I-20 Art School NYC (F-1 Visa Program)
To receive a Certificate of Completion from New York Art Studio, an SEVP-certified I-20 art school in New York City, students must complete a full-time course of study under one of the following F-1 visa–eligible certificate programs:
- 1-Year Certificate Program (Full-Time, I-20 Eligible)
- 3-Year Certificate Honors Program (Full-Time, I-20 Eligible)
These programs are approved for international students studying art in the USA and meet F-1 student visa enrollment requirements. Eligible students may receive Form I-20 to pursue structured, full-time art study at a U.S. art school authorized to enroll F-1 visa students.
Visual Arts Foundation Program – F-1 Visa Eligible Art Program
The Visual Arts Foundation Program is an F-1 visa–eligible track within our I-20 certificate offerings and is open to international students of all skill levels. This program is ideal for students seeking to study art in the United States through a student visa art program, including those looking for art classes for beginners or structured foundational training.
This track is designed for international students who are:
- Exploring introductory-level fine art and design studies
- New to formal art education
- Seeking a full-time F-1 visa art school program in NYC
- Interested in building foundational skills before advancing toward a professional art or design pathway
Curriculum Overview – Foundation Art Classes in the USA
In the Visual Arts Foundation Program, students receive hands-on instruction across multiple disciplines while maintaining full-time enrollment required for F-1 student visa status. Coursework includes:
- Drawing classes (observational drawing, fundamentals, and technique)
- Painting classes (traditional media and material exploration)
- Foundational design instruction (composition, form, color, and visual structure)

Intro To Mixed Media
This course explores the creative possibilities of combining traditional art materials such as watercolor, graphite, ink, and collage. Students will learn to experiment with various media and techniques, focusing on how to integrate them into cohesive compositions. Emphasis is placed on creative exploration, layering, and personal expression.
Intro To Design
This course introduces the core principles of visual design, with a focus on color theory, composition, and the elements and principles of design. Students will explore how to create balanced, visually engaging work through hands-on exercises and foundational design thinking.
Intro To Drawing
Students will understand fundamental concepts in visual arts and drawing classes, such as shadow, tone, color, space, and value, through a variety of observational and imaginative projects.
Intro To Watercolor
Students will explore basic watercolor techniques and materials, learning how to manipulate water and paint to create various visual effects, including transparency and washes.
Intro To Illustration
This course introduces the fundamentals of illustration, focusing on visual storytelling, drawing techniques, and composition. Students will explore various styles and mediums while learning how to develop concepts, create characters, and communicate ideas through imagery. Emphasis is placed on both creativity and technical skill.
Intro To Painting
Students will understand the basic techniques, materials, and expressive methods used in painting classes, as students explore how to convey ideas and observations through both observational and imaginative projects.
