    Frequently Asked
    Questions (FAQs)

I am new to the process. What is the first step?

Begin by exploring which art portfolio preparation track best aligns with your academic goals and career path.

Once accepted into our SEVP-certified art programs in New York City, eligible international students receive a Form I-20, allowing them to study at New York Art Studio under F-1 visa status.

What documents do I need for my F-1 visa interview?
    • Valid passport
    • Form I-20
    • DS-160 confirmation
    • SEVIS I-901 payment receipt
    • Visa appointment confirmation
    • Financial documents showing ability to pay tuition/living expenses
    • Academic records (transcripts, diplomas, test scores)
Can students who complete your program apply for OPT

Yes. International students enrolled in SEVP-certified art programs at New York Art Studio may be eligible to apply for Optional Practical Training (OPT) after successfully completing their program and maintaining good academic standing, in accordance with SEVIS and USCIS regulations.

OPT approval is determined by USCIS and may vary based on individual circumstances.

Can I change from a different visa status to F-1 while in the U.S.?

Yes, through a Change of Status application with USCIS, or by exiting and re-entering the U.S. with an F-1 visa.

How do I get a travel signature?

Request it from your Designated School Official (DSO). It's typically valid for one year.

Can I travel outside the U.S. while on an F-1 visa?

Yes, but you must have a valid F-1 visa, a valid passport, and a current travel signature on your I-20.

    What is an F-1 visa?

The F-1 visa is a non-immigrant student visa that allows international students to pursue full-time academic study in the United States at an SEVP-certified institution. Students enrolled in approved art and design programs may study in the U.S. under F-1 visa status once issued a Form I-20.

If you have questions at any stage of the process, our admissions team is available to guide you through international student enrollment.

Is this program suitable for beginners?

Yes. Our international student art programs are designed to welcome students at all levels, including beginners. Through structured instruction and personalized guidance, students build strong foundational skills while preparing for advanced portfolio development and future art studies in the United States.

How do I apply for an F-1 visa?

International students must first be accepted into an SEVP-certified art program in the United States and receive a Form I-20. Students then pay the SEVIS I-901 fee, complete the DS-160 form, and attend an F-1 visa interview at a U.S. embassy or consulate. Visa issuance is subject to approval by U.S. immigration authorities.

Can I transfer schools while on an F-1 visa

Yes, but you must notify your current school, obtain a new I-20 from the new school, and complete a SEVIS transfer process.

Do I need to be a full-time student?

Yes. Students studying in the United States under F-1 visa status are required to maintain full-time enrollment during the academic year in accordance with SEVIS regulations. Full-time study requirements are defined by the institution and monitored to ensure continued compliance with F-1 status.

Can I work while on an F-1 visa?
    • On-campus: Yes, up to 20 hours/week during school, full-time during breaks.
    • Off-campus: Only with special authorization, such as CPT or OPT.
